In December, writer Alexandria Pallat launched Ink & Parchment as a writing and editing service for small groups and different agencies. Pallet recently spoke to The News-Post about her services and what she loves about running her commercial enterprise.
What made you need to open the writing business?
I even have an ardor for writing and editing. Many people I knew had been coming to me and asking if I could edit their articles or papers. I found out that if I even have people asking me to do that, that is a skill that I can use to assist companies in improving, whether it be income or their online presence. I could observe grammar, punctuation, or spelling errors for many agencies, which bothers me. I wanted to assist other corporations in keeping away from that issue because it can be replicated in an enterprise, and I can offer that help.
What’s your history?
I have a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Arts in Communications.
Is writing interesting to you?
I began analyzing biology at university, and I became interested in it. However, that’s no longer where my talent set was. I changed into taking English training, and one of my favorite instructors told me, ‘You have something, and you don’t even know what rhetoric is. However, you’re excelling at it in my class,’ so I changed my diploma course. I constantly was writing as a hobby; I started with fan fiction when I turned into junior excessive, and I just improved from there, writing little snippets and portions for myself. Once I modified stages, I never seemed again, and it certainly made that university journey far more worth it.
What form of offerings do you provide to your clients?
I do a diffusion of writing and editing. Editing includes proofreading, grammar, and punctuation. I can fully edit or appear over something to ensure it sounds properly. I can do content material depending on the content material location. But I’m no longer an engineer, so I can’t inform you if some code is accurate, but I can tell you if it’s nicely written.
As a long way as writing, I do ghostwrite, meaning I will write a piece for somebody. It may be for a business’s blog, then posted beneath its call. I can do long-form, short-shape, advertising substances, and social media content material. Many small organizations may not have the team they need to be dedicated to social media, and I can assist in providing that support.
How much do your services cost?
They begin at $50 an hour for at least four hours.
What’s your preferred component, approximately owning and running your own writing business?
The pleasant element is proudly owning and operating my enterprise. It’s exciting to determine the form of paintings I do, how long it takes me to do something, and the clients I paint with. I enjoy modifying for the fire provider industry and the emergency management enterprise because I grew up surrounded by those industries. That’s where my consumer base has stemmed from, and it’s genuinely exciting because I’m very interested in that field; however, it’s no longer sufficient to be an EMS officer. It gives me a risk to study more about industries and corporations and facet projects that I am concerned about or interested in; however, perhaps I can’t pledge myself to them. I analyze plenty, and that’s virtually cool.
