Among the services and products that cater to young India’s desires stand out startups like Chennai-based Athulya Assisted Living serving senior residents, who might also form a niche target audience now, but not for long.
India, home to 1.3 billion people, is considered a young United States of America, with almost 1/2 of its populace being beneath 25. But that is set to change if authorities’ projections and the latest Economic Survey are to move forward.
By 2050, the USA is expected to host almost 340 million people above 60 — greater than the US’s present-day population!
With low healthcare penetration — one mattress for 1,000 sufferers — India needs multiplied investment and resource allocation in senior care. Karthik Ramakrishnan’s Athulya Assisted Living, an aged care startup installation in Mylapore, Chennai, in 2017, has goals to cope with this need.
Functioning as a “top rate assisted residing domestic” with a group of professional healthcare specialists to attend to clients every need, the younger startup has an internet presence.
Not a vintage-age home
Athulya is positioned as an assisted dwelling center and focuses on people living overseas and busy professionals who need experts to take care of their mother and father. From assisted beds to excessive-give-up ECG machines and a health practitioner on-name round-the-clock, Athulya does all its bookings online, the verifications over a cellphone name, followed with the aid of physical guarantees properly. The startup charges its customers on a condo (month-to-month) foundation.
“It became t smooth to begin up in India because there are antique-age homes that soak up human beings and are not connecting the details of healthcare. Older human beings need no longer just a network. Still, additionally, medical doctors and nurses are available, and they want to stay inside a clinic,” says Karthik N Ramakrishnan, Founder of Athulya Assisted Living.
Karthik commenced as a trained medical doctor and is a sanatorium control professional with over ten years of administrative and scientific experience. He served as the local lead and fellow in performance improvement for leading health structures within the US, including Dignity Health, Prime Healthcare Services, and Kaiser Permanente.
He is also a predominant healthcare consultant for Sri City, one of India’s biggest incorporated business towns. Karthik is also the marketing consultant to the Chairman of the SRM Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS).
End-to-stop services
Karthik bootstrapped the startup by pumping Rs 2 crore into Athulya. He does not desire to disclose his revenue; however, he says he’s scaling up. However, teething demanding situations existed, specifically even convincing the youngsters of the startup’s target market.
“It became slow going as humans have biases towards senior care. Children abroad do not understand that parents can be cared for by specialists. But, after three months, the primary customer got here to us from Singapore,” says Karthik, including that the couple dropped their mother off at their assisted residing center.
The following whiff of success in 2018 led Karthik to shop inside the two greater suburbs of Chennai – Arambakkam and Perungudi. Today, the startup has more than 50 people staying with them. The organization aims to create apps in the future wherein clients can test their dad and mom living in these assisted homes.
It connects its visitors to hospitals by constantly checking their vitals through IoT gadgets and passing that information into the cloud.
“The first step is to provide assisted care, and as we scale, we can upload extra technology,” says Karthik.
Athulya has also released a logo called Healthabove60 to provide guidance and information at your step; thus, senior citizens can get care at home instead of living in an assisted dwelling center.
Healthabove60 presents visits through doctors, home care nursing assistants, home care attendants, physiotherapist visits, domestic blood series, remedy shipping, medical counseling, ambulance offerings, dental services, scientific gadgets, and dialysis.
The cost in line with 12 months should go from $20,000 to $100,000 to help the senior citizen.
