Suppose you don’t have the time, money, or inclination to journey downtown this upcoming vacation weekend. In that case, I think a quick getaway is going for a cocktail at The Robey inside the coronary heart of Wicker Park.
The Robey, 2018 W. North, is easily handy via the CTA Blue Line, Damen prevent. There are several alternatives for dining and ingesting — a few with majestic skyline perspectives without the problem and hefty rate tag of downtown’s rooftop bars — and access to a swimming pool without having to e-book a single-day lodge live or pay for a club membership.
That’s proper. There’s a pool! Recline on lounge chairs and get a hotel-fashion provider as you soak in some nutrition D.
Located on the sixth floor of the inn, Cabana Club is open until early September. It features eighty diplomacy perspectives of the city skyline and a cocktail menu about sitting back and summertime vibes.
“It’s open to the general public, so everyone can come in, dip their feet into the pool, have a first-rate-tasting refreshing cocktail, and loosen up on a Saturday afternoon,” stated Vanessa Beaderstadt, Cabana Club’s standard manager. (Come at some point of the week for a more tranquil environment; the pool opens at eleven a.m.)
What ought you drink at the same time as lounging in the sun? Something frozen, of course!
The Miami Vice is a swirled pina colada (spiced rum, coconut, orange, lime) with strawberry daiquiri (rum, strawberry, lime). Made You Blush is a slushy rose, elderflower, Aperol, and lime drink. There also are margaritas, and all frozen and liquids may be purchased via carafe for sharing. (If you want a choose-me-up, pass the coffee and order the frozen Red Bull.)
Club cocktails consist of the popular Burn Baby Burn — smokey notes from mezcal, citrus notes from lime and grapefruit juice, and the “burn” from jalapeno agave and firewater bitters.
Pisco punch is a bright crimson color that will brighten any stupid mood. The tiki-fashion drink has a base spirit of pisco infused with lavender, raspberry green tea, and pineapple.
“Since the Fourth of July is simply kicking off, you can see all human beings letting off fireworks within the community,” stated Beaderstadt. “You can even see the Navy Pier [fireworks] downtown; there are superb rooftop views up here.”
“Cabana Club is set to summer time [and] fresh combined beverages and frozen to sip on via the pool as you take within the perspectives,” said Danny Park, The Robey’s meals and beverage director. “Up Room is our yr-round bar on the 13th ground, presenting greater conventional mixology that’s best for after-work liquids, a date, or after-dinner drinks.”
Up Room features a lovely wrap-around terrace with breathtaking, unobstructed views.
“When you rise right here, it’s nearly like [being in on] a mystery,” stated Laine Peterson, popular manager of the Up Room. “You have pretty much a 360-diploma view of Chicago. You can see all the way north to Wrigley Field; you may see quite some distance down south on a clear night. The Chicago skyline is remarkable.”Peterson said the majestic view lends itself to visitors celebrating special activities. The venue is glossy and intimate, and the extra-delicate liquids should live as much as the backdrop.
“It’s an assignment we accept, and we’re enthusiastic about. It maintains us being innovative, progressive; we’ve got the potential to apply truely top-echelon ingredients,” said Peterson.
For example, the Bird Walks Into a Bar cocktail is a modified tiki drink with maple syrup to smooth out the bitterness of Cynar. It’s rum-primarily based; however, it’s not too candy.
April Showers Bring May Flowers is as quiet to look at as it’s far to drink. It features the precise substances of cachaca (fermented sugarcane spirit), celery bitters and salt, fresh cucumber, and chateau (aloe and cucumber liqueur) crowned with soda water and garnished with fit-to-be-eaten pansies.
Another favorite is Blondes Have More Fun — the vibrantly colored drink features rum, passionfruit puree, vanilla, and tobacco, garnished with purple peppercorns.
Peterson recommends Oaxacan on Broken Glass for a cocktail that engages all senses. This mezcal drink is garnished with a rosemary sprig lit on fire.
“There’s the spectacle [of the smoking rosemary sprig], and the whole room smells it and makes it reactive, attracts intend rest to it,” said Peterson.
