Skip Dessert on the Restaurant — Eat It Somewhere Else

Suppose you’re as enthusiastic about John Mulaney as I am. In that case, you’re possibly familiar with how the “Stranger Danger” bit from his Netflix special, Kid Gorgeous, ends: If a kidnapper takes you to another region, your odds of coming back alive are narrow to none. This buildup is what makes Mulaney’s subsequent line so tremendous — “if I’m at an area, I by no means need to go to another vicinity” — and includes very particular examples like publish-wedding ceremony reception beverages on the resort bar (“Nah, Nah, sister. You’re now not getting me to no secondary location”).

Unlike Mulaney, I’m now not frightened of secondary locations. I love to exit to dinner, but after I do, I pass to eat Dessert at the restaurant. Not because I even have a non-existent candy tooth (to the contrary, as you’re about to find out), but as an alternative, because I see the put-up time for dinner as a possibility to strive for something else. The pass is to go to a secondary region, just for Dessert.

Dessert

A lot of eating place dessert menus are afterthoughts. Most mid-range eating places have dessert menus that are overly acquainted with the quality (crème brûlée or carrot cake) or just terrible. The most obvious solution completed using this move is refusing to settle for much less while you could plan a separate dessert prevent into the meal itself.

The secondary dessert stop allows me to walk to a bakery (or any other restaurant with a better dessert menu) and attempt something completely distinctive from my meal. I recently went to Nom Wah Nolita with my roommate; once we worked our way via a tray of scallion pancakes, Chinese veggies, and red meat dumplings, I cautioned we take a stroll to Peter’s Pie, a place near and dear to my heart — and one of Eater NY’s top pie destinations — to attempt their seasonal fruit pies. While Nom Wah offers one of my favorite desserts, the purple bean bun, I didn’t want something much like our meal. I tried mixing it up to create different flavors to make an exceptional experience.

But the primary reason for eating Dessert in a secondary region is my desire to experience this huge and delightful city, with countless places to consume and upload on your CBDH (“come back and dine right here”) listing. Dining out is somewhat like a sport to me. And by the end of the night time, a secondary dessert manner you’ve not best-loved an excellent meal at a restaurant, you’ve given yourself the danger to knock a new region off your listing, inclusive of ice cream parlors, bakeries, and other places wherein “dessert” is something that’s no longer always plated.

Dessert at a secondary area makes me feel finished — like a pro diner, like a person who’s maximized the possibility to make a desire. Smakedyourselflf a choice: Next time you’re dining out, ask for the check and then take yourselsomewherece else fodessertrt. Because there’s nothing sweeter than the idea of dessert-ingesting as an accomplishment, someplace exclusive from where you ate dinner. — Esra Erol
P.S. Hankering for eating enjoy with even greater stops? Check out Eater’s manual to plan an epic food move slowly.
