The government is seriously searching into lawsuits of bottled water and packaged foods and drinks being offered at charges higher than the most retail rate, Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan stated on Tuesday.
“Some complaints of bottled water and packaged food and drinks being offered at fees higher than the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) had been received.
“There are provisions within the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 to prevent charging above MRP,” Paswan informed the Lok Sabha during Question Hour.
He additionally said the government is seriously searching into the problem.
Enforcement of the provisions is executed by the Legal Metrology Department of the state governments, which imposes penalties in case of violations, he introduced.
The minister was responding to a query on whether the government knows bottled water and packaged food and drinks are bought at higher expenses than MRP at public places like railway stations, airports, accommodations, and theaters.

The capabilities development ministry is developing a framework below which credit might be given for vocational education from industrial schooling institutes (ITIs) equivalent to instructional grades.

Our mandate is to broaden a credit framework that fits India’s skilling aspirants, and we are working closer to it,” the official quoted above said on the situation of anonymity.
